OHCS STAFF SENSITIZED ON BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
A sensitization program was organized on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, to educate the staff of the Office of the Head of Civil Service (OHCS) on breast cancer, joining the global community, World Health Organization (WHO) in the month of October annually to raise awareness and highlight the importance of early detection, timely diagnosis, comprehensive treatment, and the need to provide support for those living with the condition.
The event, a partnership between OHCS and SONOTECH Medical and Diagnostic Centre, aimed to increase awareness about breast cancer, emphasizing the importance of early detection, and promoting routine medical check-ups. This initiative represents a significant step in promoting health awareness and encouraging proactive measures against breast cancer.
Dr. Evans Aggrey Darkoh, the Head of the Civil Service, encouraged the staff to prioritize routine check-ups, as recommended by medical professionals, stating that this is the surest way to prevent the disease.
He emphasized that a healthy workforce is essential for the service to execute its mandate and urged the men to actively participate in the screening program, noting that recent statistics indicate an increase in men reporting breast cancer cases.
Mr. Mensah Robertson, the Brand Manager of SONOTECH Medical and Diagnostic Centre, and his team led participants through the relevant topics. He highlighted the causes of breast cancer, early signs and symptoms, and common myths and misconceptions surrounding the disease, as well as diagnosis and treatment methods. Additionally, the team demonstrated how individuals could perform self-examinations.
SONOTECH Medical and Diagnostic Centre provided free breast examinations to all OHCS staff and offered a 50% discount on scans and additional consultations at any of their branches.
