CIVIL SERVICE IS AN ANCHOR OF THE NATION’S GOVERNANCE AND DEVELOPMENT- DR. AGGREY-DARKOH
The Head of the Ghana’s Civil Service, Dr Evans Aggrey Darkoh has emphasised the critical contribution of the Civil Service to the nation’s democratic governance and the socio- economic development, describing it as an anchor through which the development agenda of the country rest, stressing that “if the Civil Service doesn’t deliver the nation will never be developed.”
Dr. Aggrey-Darkoh made this statement on Monday September 16, 2024, when he opened a seven-week Senior Management training course at the Ghana Institute of Public Administration (GIMPA) to build the capacity of Directors and analogous grade in the Civil Service. The programme is part of the Service continuous efforts to train and develop the capacity of the staff.
He indicated the pivotal role Directors play in shaping policies, delivering public services and driving progress, arguing that, with the world becoming too complex, the importance of continuous education to meet personal and professional demands cannot be underestimated.
Having extended his appreciation to Management of GIMPA for the strong collaboration with the Service, he encouraged participants to approach the course with enthusiasm and commitment to benefit from the rich expertise of the facilitators.
The Dean of the GIMPA Faculty of Law, Dr. Kwaku Agyeman-Budu expressed his deepest gratitude to the Head of Civil Service for strengthening the established collaboration between the two institutions.
He assured participant of GIMPA’s commitment to offer them a cutting-edge knowledge, skills and best practises that would equip them to excel in senior management roles, meet the current complex leadership challenges, and drive innovation. He stressed that “effective leadership is not just about technical expertise, but emotional intelligence and critical thinking.
Present at the opening were Chief Director of OHCS Mrs. Eunice Osae, Director of Recruitment Madam Elizabeth Obeng-Yeboah, Staff of GIMPA, Directors, Participants and Staffs of OHCS.
Among the topics to be discussed are, Bureaucracy, Political Accountability, Public Procurement laws, Public Financial Management laws, Leadership etc.
