OHCS INAUGURATES CRÈCHE FACILITY FOR STAFF
The Office of the Head of the Civil Service (OHCS) on Thursday, September 4, 2025, inaugurated a crèche facility to support staff, particularly nursing mothers, by easing the burden on working parents while providing a safe and nurturing environment for their children.
In a speech read on her behalf, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, commended OHCS for the initiative, noting that it aligns directly with the Ministry’s mission: “to safeguard the welfare of children, promote gender equality, and provide social protection for all.”
She emphasized that investing in children should not be seen as an act of charity but as a strategic move to secure Ghana’s future.
The Head of the Civil Service, Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, stated that the crèche facility, established under the Civil Service Employees’ Assistance Programme (CSEAP), complements the recently launched counselling services introduced in July. According to him, both initiatives are part of broader efforts to create a supportive work environment where staff feel valued, heard, and empowered to perform at their best.
Dr. Aggrey-Darkoh also acknowledged the contributions of Mrs. Eunice Osae, former Chief Director of OHCS, and the Country Director of the International Labour Organization (ILO), whose vision and support helped bring the project to fruition.
The Executive Director of Child Rights International (CRI), Mr. Bright Appiah, also praised the Civil Service for the initiative. He noted that such programmes reflect a public sector that places people at the centre of its operations and recognizes that productivity is linked to the adoption of family-friendly policies.
He therefore encouraged other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to emulate this example by establishing similar facilities in their workplaces.
The crèche facility is thoughtfully designed with child safety and development in mind. It includes a study room equipped with modern learning materials and a fully furnished kitchen to support the care and well-being of the children.
